L’Homme Press├® remains in King George field for Williams

The King George VI Chase is one of the biggest races of the season in National Hunt racing, and Herefordshire-based trainer Venetia Williams will be hoping to win it for the second time in her career this year.

WilliamsÔÇÖ best chance in 2022 is likely to be with LÔÇÖHomme Press├®. The seven-year-old remains in the field for 3m contest at Kempton at the latest acceptance stage. His most recent appearance came in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle where he carried top weight to success.

With 12 stone on his back, WilliamsÔÇÖ stable star stayed on better than his rivals to score by a length in the handicap chase over 2m7f. It brought his record up to six wins from seven outings over fences.

LÔÇÖHomme Press├® is now 7/1 to win the King George on Boxing Day. Those looking to back the second-season chaser may be eligible for the bet 10 get 30 offer from Betfair. If you are a new customer, place ┬ú10 on their sportsbook and you will be eligible to use ┬ú30 in free bets on the biggest race of the festive period in the UK.

An unblemished novice season

WilliamsÔÇÖ runner ended last season as one of the leading novice chasers in the UK and Ireland. The highlight of his campaign was his Festival victory Cheltenham. He justified going off as the favourite in the 2022 Brown Advisory NovicesÔÇÖ Chase, scoring by just over three lengths in the race ahead of Ahoy Senor and Gaillard Du Mesnil respectively.

The geldingÔÇÖs sole defeat in the 2021/22 campaign came at Aintree at the Grand National Meeting. He could only finish third in the Mildmay NovicesÔÇÖ Chase, as Ahoy Senor gained revenge on his rivals to land the Grade I contest.

One of the things which will have impressed Williams last season about LÔÇÖHomme Press├® is that he showed his versatility on different ground. When he won the Grade I Scilly Isles NovicesÔÇÖ Chase at Sandown, it was Good to Soft ground, while at the Cheltenham Festival, he scored in much more testing conditions on the wettest day for many years.

Challenges from Ditcheat

LÔÇÖHomme Press├® will not need to face Allaho or Galopin Des Champs in this yearÔÇÖs King George. Both of those horses have sat at the top of the ante-post market for the race at various points in the season, but both have been scratched.

Paul NichollsÔÇÖ duo of Bravemansgame and Hitman are the only two horses ahead of LÔÇÖHomme Press├® in the betting. Bravemansgame prevailed on his seasonal reappearance at Wetherby in the Charlie Hall Chase earlier in the campaign. He tops the betting to give his trainer a remarkable 13th win in the race.

Hitman enhanced his King George claims with a victory at Haydock recently. He went once place better at the Lancashire racecourse than he did in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree a month earlier.

Williams has been in excellent form in November, including at our meeting on Wednesday last, and she will be hoping that continues in December ahead of some big races over the Christmas period in the sport.
